In celebration of the Olympic spirit and our South African athletes’ exceptional talent, Absa – a leading South African bank – and Visa – worldwide partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games – are thrilled to announce an exciting new initiative: “Go for gold and unlock your next great story,” valid for the duration of the games between 26 July and 11 August 2024.
Over the next few weeks in Paris, as athletes globally battle it out in their respective sporting codes on the global stage, Absa and Visa will be rewarding customers in an exciting new challenge that brings the Olympic fun directly to each participating individual right here in South Africa.

We are exceptionally proud of our competing athletes and Go for Gold is a rally behind the South African athletes because when our athletes win, the nation wins, and Absa is bringing this to life with cash back for every South African medal won.”
“Cash back is money back in customer pockets. Like our athletes, we all as individuals are striving towards something daily, whether it’s a gold medal, promotion at work, all our stories matter. Every medal won by our athletes translates into tangible rewards for Absa Visa cardholders,” Raynard added.
Here’s how it works:
- Pay with your card to enter and add more to your story every time – simply use your Absa Visa card for any purchase during the Olympic Games period.
- Use your card at any Absa Rewards Partner and get up to:
- Five times cash back for every gold medal won by an SA athlete
- Three times cash back for every silver medal won by an SA athlete
- Double cash back for every bronze medal won by an SA athlete.
To qualify for the bonus cash back:
- The customer must be an Absa Rewards member.
- Only Card Not Present (online) and Absa Pays (Apple Pay, Garmin Pay, Samsung Pay and Fitbit Pay) transactions qualify.
- Customers must have spent on their Absa Visa card at least five times during the month to qualify.
- Spending is capped to R1 000 per day, and normal caps apply per accrual cycle.
Plus, customers who spend a minimum of R5 000 using their Absa Visa card during the Olympic Games stand a chance to spend a day with South African athlete Akani Simbine!
The boost will be calculated on the spend on the day the medal is won and the cash back will be based on the highest medal won by our SA athletes on the day.
