PINs, Passwords and transaction verification
Absa will never need to know what your PIN, password, app passcode or logon details are.
So, if you get an email, phone call or SMS asking for your PIN, password, app passcode or logon details, know that it is a scam. Delete the email or message immediately. Cut the call.
Remember, never share your:
- PIN
- Password
- App passcode
- Logon details
Bank Card and CVV Number
If you feel like someone is trying to distract you at the ATM or notice that the ATM card slot may have been tampered with, don’t take a chance.
You should:
- Always be alert at the ATM
- Never accept help from strangers
- Stop and replace your card if you feel it’s been compromised
Your CVV number, the three number sequence on the back of your card, is designed to protect you from fraud when you are making a purchase over the phone or online. It is our way to verify that you are the legitimate account holder.
You should never share your CVV number:
- Over the phone
- Via email
- Via SMS
Mobile Devices
Whether you’re at the shops or at home, your phone is always with you and because of that, you need to keep it secure. Do not save your confidential banking information on your phone, instead, use the Banking App features to help you keep your money safe.
You can use the Banking App to:
- Stop and replace your cards
- Report fraud securely
- Manage your limits
- Temporarily lock certain functions on your card
Confidential Identity Information
Identity theft is a real threat to the security of your bank account.
What can you do to avoid Identity theft?
- Always use secured WiFi when doing online banking
- Always use websites starting with https
- Be extra careful of what kind of information you share on your social networks
